Emperor Maximilian I. is one of the most prominent figures of the House of Habsburg. His life was shaped by the fickle fortunes of war as much as by the introduction of new technological innovations, which he knew how to use to his advantage.
The permanent exhibition making use of state‑of‑the‑art multimedia technology and a digital interpretation concept explores not only the personality of Emperor Maximilian I (1459–1519), his wives, court life, and the influences that shaped his life, but also deliberately addresses topics of European and global significance. The European expeditions to the west are examined, as are the journeys to the east undertaken by Sigismund von Herberstein on imperial commission. The exhibition is rounded off by the latest research findings on the architectural history of the Hofburg Innsbruck, climate history, and the contextualization of politics, religion, and economics.
